GhostoftheSea, also known under her initials as EL, is a British artist based in the North West of England who specialises in watercolours and gouache.Her primary subjects are pets and wildlife, taking inspiration from her passion for animals and the natural environment. She has spent over a decade working with animals, from domestic pets to critically endangered wildlife, and has a particular love for birds, aquatics and foxes.

Stylised Watercolour Portraits

Starting from:
A5 (5.8 x 8.3 inches) - £20

However these all increase complexity and working time due to the nature of watercolours, and will result in additional costs and time for completion. Custom sizes may be accommodated, please ask.Discounts can be made if ordering multiple paintings at once.Waiting time can be as little as a few days, up to a few weeks depending on complexity and artist availability.These paintings can use true to life colours or artistic colour choices, however they look best with no more than 3 distinct colours in a single painting.

The subject can be:
A general animal species/pose
Based on a photo/photos you have taken/have permission to use for this purpose (Photo of a pet, etc.)
Original animal-based characters. (Some may work better than others and complexity may affect price, feel free to ask!)These paintings are best with one subject, although more may work depending on specifics.

Theme/subject - (Painting size, based on a specific photo or if its just a general animal type, colour preferences, pose preferences, etc.)
Other information - (Are there any time constraints? Or any preferences for if/when the artist posts images of the commission to social media? Any other requests or important information?)If you have any queries or questions prior to commissioning, you can contact me by email or through Bluesky.

I'm quite comfortable working with low quality reference photos, however if your primary reference photo is not completely clear or there are obstructions in it, I ask you send at least one other photo to provide me with further points of reference to be able to accurately depict the subject.

  • Payment is to be made through Paypal.

  • A minimum of 50% of the full price must be paid as a deposit before work begins, and the rest before the full quality files are sent/artwork is shipped. You may pay in full upfront if you want.

  • All artwork will feature a small signature of my initials on the front, but not obscuring the subject.

  • You will receive high resolution digital files of the artwork.

  • All prices above do not include shipping of the original artwork. Within the UK, packing/tracked shipping is an extra £5. If you are outside of the UK, the cost will vary. (Currently I will not be mailing physical artworks to the EU)

  • Traditional artworks are shipped without framing/mounting, but in protective packaging.

  • I recommend tracked shipping as I cannot be held responsible for any loss during transit.

Basic Terms of Service and usage of Artworks

At no point is any of the following allowed in regards to artworks(Commissions, independent artworks and prints) produced by GhostoftheSea/EL:

  • Claiming that artworks were created by anyone other than GhostoftheSea/EL.

  • Using artworks for training of AI algorithms/models in any way, shape or form.

  • Reproducing artworks in any way shape or form with the intention of selling or redistributing en-masse. (Unless already discussed and agreed on with the artist)

  • Reposting artworks on social media or websites regardless of if the Artist has or has not been credited. (Unless already discussed and agreed with the artist)

Should you purchase artworks(Commissions, independent artworks and prints) from GhostoftheSea/EL, you acknowledge that you understand the following:

  • On receipt of a personalised commission only, the person who ordered it may print (Or acquire prints from a 3rd party) of the artwork for personal use (Including gifting to friends and family). This does not apply to prints and independent original artworks.

  • This does not grant you permission to reproduce the artwork with the intention of selling, or redistributing en-masse. (Unless already discussed and agreed on with the Artist)

  • You understand that if you purchase an original physical artwork, the artwork may be susceptible to damage from a variety of sources, including but not limited to humidity, heat and rough handling, and the artist cannot be held responsible for any damage after the artwork has been received.
